Jacana Media and Exclusive Books invite you to the launch of Native Nostalgia by Jacob Dlamini, with guest speaker, executive editor of The Weekender, Rehana Rossouw.
In Native Nostalgia, Dlamini examines what it means for black South Africans to remember their lives under apartheid with fondness. What does it mean for a young black South African to say of his life under apartheid: “I had a happy childhood” - ? What does it mean for an old black woman to say today: “Life was better under apartheid” - ? Both sentiments are discomforting, for they challenge the neat master narrative of redemption and overcoming that is at the heart of South Africa’s struggle history and its mythologies.
